What Customers Say About Sony ICDB600 Digital Voice Recorder:

That would usually make it stop, but not always. A box opened on the screen & I chose the line-in option. I would have to open the battery compartment to push the battery connections further inward. Sometimes it would make loud clicking noises. It would often drain brand new batteries within seconds. If you know of a better way please let me know. It went from the headphones jack on the recorder to the microphone jack on the computer. I bought a cord from Radio Shack (only about $3) to transfer the recordings to my computer.

Then I pushed the play button on the digital recorder and was able to transfer it, but unfortunately it was minute by minute so a 2 hour recording took 2 hours to transfer to my computer. This has been the case since day one and so I have only been able to record with it twice. Same thing when I tried rechargeable batteries. I had Sony Sound Forge audio program open and chose "Special", "Transport" then "Record". Many times I would have to remove the batteries to get the clicking to stop. It was a total waste of $40. Then I did "File", "Save As" and named it what I wanted to. I just want to get these few recordings onto my computer so I can go buy a different recorder and throw the Sony ICBD600 away.

The newer models have an up/down button for volume control instead of a wheel and craftmanship is much better and feel is much more substantial and they also added a few more useful features like variable pitch control on playback. Maybe several years ago Sony's icd-b300/b400/b600 recorders were considered good but now Sony has a MUCH better line-up in the ICD-bx700 for approx $30 shipped (refurbished) here on Amazon or $40 new at walmart. So they basically upgraded and improved noticeably on the icd-b600 with the bx700/px720 versions and I have no clue why they're still selling these older models accept to get rid of old stock. I own both and the newer + much improved bx700/px720(adds usb port) make these older models obsolete. They are still basically the same recorders and look the same but offer more features, 1gb storage, SHQ mode along with HQ mode AND HQ mode on the bx700 sounds 10x's better than HQ mode on these out-dated versions which produce a lot of background noise + hiss. The newer versions also have Stereo recording capability in SHQ + HQ mode when using an external stereo mic such as Sony's ecm-ds70p or ds30p which produces some really nice recordings especially for the money. Summing up, If you were to put these recorders side by side you would cry if you bought the b600 vs the bx700 or px720.

It has now been a year and the rewind and erase buttons do not work. I have owned this for approximately for a year. It functioned fine for the first month. After this buttons gradually stopped working. It just depends on what your expectations are. After that there were problems that started to come up.

It could be that too much lint has collected inside. I have carried it in my pants pocket and it has not had any abuse beyond normal everyday use. I have no reason to believe that the other buttons will stop soon. First, fine lint started collected under the plastic screen. This will significantly obstruct your view after a few weeks. The product is easy to use and has done everything that it is suppose to do as long as it worked.

If you expect it to work for more than 6 months with everyday use then look else where.

This recorder gets the job done, but is a digital recorder that does not connect to an computer to transfer the digital files over. If you are looking for a basic recorder, then this model is great. Also there is no speed control on this model to speed up or slow down speech. Also there is no on/off switch, so I found it really tricky to turn it off and it was not well explained in the manual. Quality is high and records extremely well. If you are looking to use this for transcriptions for other digital transferring then it might not be as useful.

Item arrived in perfect condition and in a timely manner. I would do business with this person again.
